La Esperanza and the producer
La Esperanza is back again for the 3rd year in a row!
This coffee has been a big hit each year that we have worked with it. Last year it was voted in GQ Magazine as one of the top 50 things to eat & drink in 2013.
We are really happy to be able to work closer with the Herrera family & the farm this year, bringing La Esperanza back it on our menu again.
The Herrera’s are a warm & hospitable family. We could not ask for more welcoming folks when visiting them and their farm in San Pedro Necta. We wanted to give you a little more of a story behind this coffee and why we work with La Esperanza. Unfortunately, Guatemala & other Central American countries suffered from rust (fungal disease) this past year. It greatly affected Huehuetenango. The production is down which plays into why we were only able to get a very limited amount this year. We have about 1/10 of this coffee compared to last year. This is sad, but the reality is that rust has wiped out farms and it’s a big problem. You can read more about the rust and effect it has had on these producing countries here.
Here is a short video we made while visiting the farm. Enjoy!
